Recommended for children 6 to 14 years old. The Litchfield Park Recreation Center is streamlining it’s registration process for youth group lessons. When registering for swim lessons all you need to do is choose the session date and time that works best for your schedule! Classes are Monday - Thursday for two consecutive weeks. Maximum of 32 participants per session time. $38R / $46NR

LPRC Instructors are American Red Cross certified and will conduct a quick 10 minute skills assessment on the first day of class to evaluate your child’s swimming skills. From there your child will be placed in the appropriate class, along with other similarly skilled children. All level classes will maintain a 1 instructor to 8-10 participants ratio and will be 30 minutes in length.
Skills assessments to be completed on first day of class:
Level 1 Skill Assessment (must pass all to move into Level 2)
Enter water, bob 5 times, then safely exit the water. (Participants must completely submerge face and demonstrate bubbles).
Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to a back float for 5 seconds and recover to a vertical position. (This part of the assessment can be performed with assistance).
Level 2 Skill Assessment (must pass all to move to Level 3)
Step from side into chest-deep water, push off the bottom, move into a treading or floating position for at least 15 seconds, swim on front and/or back for 5 body lengths, then exit the water.
Move into a back float for 15 seconds, roll to front, then recover to a vertical position.
Push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to the front, then continue swimming for 5 body lengths.
Level 3 Skill Assessment (must pass all to move to Level 4)
Jump into deep water from the side, recover to the surface, maintain position by treading or floating for 1 minute, rotate one full turn then turn as necessary to orient to the exit point, level off, swim front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 25 yards, then exit the water.
Push off in a streamlined position and swim front crawl for 15 yards, change position and direction as necessary, swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards, then exit the water.
Level 4 Skill Assessment (muss pass all to move to Level 5)
Perform a feet first entry into deep water, swim front crawl for 25 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards.
Swim breaststroke for 15 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim back crawl for 15 yards.
Submerge and swim a distance of 3 to 5 body lengths underwater without hyperventilating, return to the surface, then exit the water.
Level 5 Skill Assessment (must pass all to move to Level 6)
Perform a shallow-angle dive into water at least 9 feet deep, swim front crawl for 50 yards, then swim elementary backstroke 50 yards using appropriate and efficient turning styles throughout.
Swim breaststroke for 25 yards, change direction of travel as necessary and then swim back crawl for 25 yards using appropriate and efficient turning styles throughout.
Intended for preschool aged children (3 - 6 years old) who are being introduced to water and are ready for the first stages of swimming. This class introduces basic aquatic skills: being comfortable in the water, developing positive attitudes and effective habits to be safe in and around the water, blowing bubbles, back floats, front and back glides, learning good kicks, and arm movements.

The foundation of Parent-Tot is for participants to gain a set of basic skills that help prepare infants and young children to become comfortable in the water so they are willing and ready to learn to swim. This class also provides parents with information and techniques to create safer aquatic environments for their children. $20R/$24NR

A parent or guardian must be in the water with their child at all times and a swim diaper must be worn if not potty-trained. Classes are Monday - Thursday for one week. Maximum of 8 participants per session time.

Elite lessons will get you ready for safe swimming this season in no time! This set of lessons are exclusive one-on-one swim lessons focused on improving your child’s swimming skills. One session includes four (4) 20-minute lessons. Ages 3 and older. Maximum of 2-3 participants per session time. $43R / $52NR
